If your located in the San Francisco bay area....you must check out the Monkey Bars store! I have the pleasure of working with Heather the owner, and a few other talented mamas. They are going to have an amazing B I R T H D A Y this year for the BIG 5. I feel really honored to participate. I'll be hosting the table full of treats for you and your little or littles.

See you there!!

Top 3 "France Favorites"

Karla Quiz

Birdie_bloom_front_color_0.jpg

The other day I was shopping with a registry list in hand. I hate registries. OK maybe hate is a strong word, but I prefer to purchase items that make me think of the person I'm shopping for.

I thought about France and the items that make me think "That's SO France" these made the list. My current France "favorites"!

Shades & Leotards & Tattoos?!

rsa8173p_01.jpg

American Apparel: Leotards. YES. I ask myself daily why these are not a part of everyday fashion for kids ( adults don't try it). Maybe we need to change that?!  #Francemeetsleo

Tattly Tattoos: France needs to be sponsored by them. She calls Tattoos "Gato" which is cat in Spanish. The first thing she does in the morning is point to her arm and look for her "Gato". Once they go away in the bath she asks for more. Let's just say this is not one of grandma's favorite things.

Have a great weekend.

Living it up

Karla Quiz

"Create a life that feels good on the inside, not one that just looks good on the outside."

It is always easier said then done. I wanted to write about something a little more lighthearted but this quote kept coming to mind. (don't know who it is by)

I have been pro-active with making the necessary changes to improve my way of life. If I feel like something needs to change, I spend time "investigating" what changes need to be made so I can stop complaining and live a healthier. I want to live happy and be happy. Things can always get better, but what good does it do if I don't enjoy the "now" in my life.

Sometimes I get frustrated that I can't check everything off of my lengthy To/Do list (perfectionist issues-sigh). It is hard to always get everything done when you have a toddler. When I get this way I have to S T O P and think about how truly Blessed I am to live the life I live.

Being the Mami of what feels like the worlds sassiest toddler is huge/b a n a n a s. I love everything about France, it's sorta ridiculous how cool I truly think she is.

BTW: I know this picture is grainy but I thought it fit the post.

Day dreaming

Karla Quiz

Paris-Metro-System-Map.gif

Maps and Trains and Cars and Planes. (you can breathe now)

Just a few of the things I have been dreaming of. I find myself itching for a new adventure. I have been trying to find excitement in the little things especially around the house, but it only makes me more antsy. It doesn't help that France and I are one in the same. Neither one of us enjoys the calmness of the day, if we haven't made a trip downtown.

Dreaming...

The nights in Paris while hand holding with my Bebe and Jason. The croissants and coffee we will buy on our walk to the museum. All the little gifts we will buy along the way…France wearing my old black beret?! I truly haven't given these days too much thought! HA.

The goal is to make our way to Paris for my 30th Birthday next year. Imagine that with my mini France in tow?!

One can only dream....

Besos de mami // Hola Dear Deer

Karla Quiz

Little Miss Independent needed this cape to seal the deal. She is in charge (not really) and now she officially thinks I should roll the red carpet out. More like lay on the floor and play dead so she can use me as a jungle gym! Not gonna lie...I love it.

Hola Dear Deer (pause. Isn't the name cute?) sent both France and Lucas a cape and mask. The Heart on the back is my favorite. I think we try and mix it up with superhero meets Brave chick. We had such fun the other morning..we ran around the house and played hide and seek. Seeing her cape fly up was a pretty cool sight to see.

Erika and Jessica are the sister duo behind HOLA. Crafting and making goods is something they both saw their father do..It's beautiful to see that they both teamed up to create something together. Both Nicole and I usually split up interview questions so this time around we each got our own!

Erika's Interview:

Q:  Any advice you would like to share with someone dreaming of starting a business or following their  passion?

A:  Pursue it! A friend once showed me this quote and I love it so much:

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”  - IRA GLASS

Q:  What part of being Hispanic do you love the most?

A:  We make EVERYTHING into a party!!!!!!!!!!

Q:  What do you enjoy doing on your free time?

A:  Free time? haha.  Time with friends and family. Books. Flipping through magazines. Lunch dates with my husband. Hanging at parks. The list is long,  and I always try to cram everything in! That's how we like our life. Busy :)

Q:  What/who is your biggest inspiration?

A:  My Family. My Parents/Husband/Sister/Children. They are some of the coolest people I know and all have the most amazing qualities.

Q:  How does being Latina affect the way you raise your children and what traditions do you hope they will continue to pass on?

A:  I try to pass on all the manners our parents taught us. "Buenos Dias & Buenas Noches"  Saying hello with a kiss and a hug. "Buen Provecho" at the end of a meal. I hope they are able to keep up with all our family holiday traditions like running down the street at midnight with an empty luggage on New Years Eve ( which means that you will have lots of travels in the new year).

Q:  Tell us your top mom "essentials"

A:

1. Other Moms you can talk to about all things Motherhood.

2. One big bag to carry EVERYTHING! I really disliked carrying a diaper bag and a purse.

3. Coffee

4. A camera to capture every single moment.

5. Music

Thank you again HOLA DEAR DEER!!! For more superhero images, and a glimpse of mama/bebe beauty head on over to Lilies & Leon.  They are sorta my favorite.

Raising Independence

Karla Quiz

I debated about posting this but I thought if it's a challenge for me, it's probably for someone else. If your in the midst of this well then..grab a tissue box and let's hold hands! BA.

From the moment I knew I was having a girl, I prayed. I prayed that she would be strong, confident, funny and loving (hence the Funny Girl poster in her room). That when she walked in a room she would shine. Not because of the clothing she wore or because she would be the loudest in the room, but because she was confident in who she was.

I got what I prayed for.

Francesca "France" means strong and she is just that. FREE. She already has so much Sass and personality. France knows what she wants at every moment and she's not shy to express it. If she greets you with "HELLO" she expects you to acknowledge her and say it back. If you don't she will lovingly repeat herself in a soft voice " Hi Helllllllllo". Just to paint you a picture.

I love her with all my heart and I see me in her! The challenges I  struggle with, I can see in her. I catch myself saying things like "She's so ________" and it's negative. I truly believe that we can speak life or death in our kids life. I have shifted my thinking. Instead of saying that I say something like "France your so patient"..get it? So simple.

Yesterday was a little tough. We have a group of friends in our neighborhood with about eight kids. We all text each other to meet at the pool..  France and I had to leave early because she threw a huge fit. I was embarrassed. I also felt like to mean mom for taking her home while all the other kids swam. I wanted to stay with her and have a blast.

While the kids all sit for lunch France is dashing away. When the kids are all in the pool she wants to get out, run around it and jump back in from the deep end. Basically she's always wanting to do the opposite of everyone else. This makes playdates tough sometimes.

Both my husband and I have tried every form of discipline and we are not sure which works best for her. I love her adventurous and free spirit! I want her to be her... if your reading this and thinking I'm venting, I'm venting! At the end of the day, I'm grateful for who she is and what I know she will become. I feel like my job as a mother is to guide her. Not change her but guide her to be the best she could be. I let her go nuts at the park and don't hold her back at the small slide because I know she hates it. I let her climb up a 6ft. ladder and stand next to it because I know she can. I don't freak out.

At night when I tuck her in I thank God that He gave me her. I know that He would never give me anything I couldn't handle. This includes the beautiful life He gave us to care for. I have days I don't know what is best. I push forward and do what I can. One thing I'm certain of is that this kid of ours is more that aware that she is LOVED. At the end of the day....I think thats all that really matters.

Keep on Keeping ON! Cheers to raising strong independent kids. Let's be honest...we wouldn't want it any other way. = )
